825捕鱼电玩城Having poised themselves as a worthy competitor to the reigning champ, , Walmart has officially launched a new membership program with the intention of saving their in-person and online customers both time and money.
825捕鱼电玩城The online and brick-and-mortar retail giant made their new service, , available on Sept. 15 with numerous perks like unlimited free delivery from Walmart stores. This includes same-day delivery of some items, including groceries. Now, if this sounds a lot like the retailer's pre-existing Delivery Unlimited service, you're not wrong ... but there is more to the membership than just that. (And, for the record, subscribers of that previous service were automatically upgraded to Walmart+ upon its launch.)
In addition to the money- and time-saving delivery benefits, drivers will also score discounts when purchasing fuel at nearly 2,000 Walmart, Murphy USA and Murphy Express gas stations. Sam's Club will also be added to the eligible list in the near future.
825捕鱼电玩城But, what about those who prefer to do their shopping in-store? Well, Walmart+ is hooking its subscribers up with access to Scan & Go in the . Once unlocked, this feature allows in-store customers the ability to scan their items as they go and benefit from a contactless payment experience with Walmart Pay.
So far, so good, but Walmart is just getting started. According to the company's , they intend to add even more member benefits in the future across a "variety of services and offerings."
"Customers know they can trust us and depend on us, and we’ve designed this program as the ultimate life hack for them," said Janey Whiteside, Walmart's chief customer officer. "Walmart+ will bring together a comprehensive set of benefits where we see the greatest needs from our customers and where our scale can bring solutions at an unprecedented value."
Walmart+ will set subscribers back $98 when billed annually or $12.95 per month, but you can take advantage of a upon signup.
Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime
825捕鱼电玩城So, is Walmart+ ready to take down Amazon Prime? Absolutely not. Prime's perks extend above and beyond, especially when it comes to entertainment value. Unfortunately, that’s not something Walmart can currently offer since they sold their digital movie and TV service, , to NBCUniversal's Fandango division earlier this year, per . Considering that and the fact that Prime costs the same as Walmart+ per month (or just $20 more per year), it’s a pretty clear-cut decision if you’re only willing to sign up for one service.
It should also be noted that Amazon Prime offers unfettered access to Prime Day which will be taking place on Oct. 13 and 14 this year. Walmart currently has no big annual event of their own, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they served up some massive price drops during that time period to provide a little competition.
That said, if you regularly order a lot of items — particularly groceries — from and you frequent your nearest location for in-store and fuel purchases, then it probably would be worth it for you to give Walmart+ a try. And, with the holiday shopping, eating and travel season right on our heels, any way to score some extra savings is certainly something to keep in mind.
